How to build a sturdy supprt for growing your raspberries and more

Have you ever gotten frustrated by using vertical supports alone, all goes well until the wind comes from the wrong direction. Why not try this awesome design

Many of us have tried the more traditional way of growing rasberry vines - using canes planted upright in the gound and using support wires to assist the plant in staying upright. The problem comes when the wind is blowing hard in the direction of your support wires, resulting in the canes usually falling over. It can be a fruitless task (pardon the pun) to re-establish the canes as they can snap or interfere with the healthy growing plants. However the idea of this new method of supporting the raspberry can eliminates this frustrating issue. The canes will grow up through the horizontal mesh and will be supported in all directions.
The metal framework is easily created using standard cattle fencing panels. They are most often 16′ long, 4′ tall and are not to difficult to source. The wood can be 4×4 posts, using 2×4 cross beams for the horizontal strutts. However please not that if you are going to the trouble of growing your own organic produce, please ensure you use untreated wood. Otherwise all your good healthy work can be ruined by the chemicals, salts and preservatives will leach into the soil contaminating your crop.
This simple but clever method of support should be great for other berries and even tomato and cucumber plants. Give it a go and maybe enlist the help of a handy-friend to build this basic structure. Have fun and happy growing - please feel free to post some photos if you have built this or a similar version so we can all share tips on growing.
